Isn't it a matter of education?
I remember being very interested in some UFO cases, I read various books, etc...But one day, on TV, a journalist came up with an argument (like why would the "witness" let himself be hypnotized by only one guy?") And all the belief system collapsed at once.
Education should allow people to make a judgment by themselves and accept good arguments.
