Mars lacks much of a magnetic field.
Thus it lacks adequate protection from solar radiation.
Thus it can not be terra-formed.
Thus both Mars and human exploration of Mars have a fairly low priority.
It's not just BD who is concerned. As Lee points out, no one knows about life on Mars, and given the risks caution is in order -
