In august 1996, I was at Toulouse following an astronomy schooling. The saturday afternoon, everybody was in the auditorium (to close the session), I called the organizer and asked if I could play loudly the transistor radio I had with me. He said "yes" and we followed the launch live on the radio.
The next day, back in Antwerp, I saw Mir and a much smaller star was following it, right behind. I thought for a few days it was the Soyuz approaching. It turned out to be the undocked Progress, leaving a hatch free for Claudie's Soyuz.
