Haa, yes, it happened last monday night: Stephen Hawking, the famous cosmologist (who is on a wheelchair because of a desease) came to Brussels, at the Free University of Brussels, the Paul-Emile Janson auditorium (many images of my life as a student came back, 25 years ago!). He had a voice synthesizer speaking in english while the written french and flemish translations were projected on a screen.
He "talked" about the "Branes" which is what our universe is made of: a membrane of an inflating balloon (a 2 dimensional representation of a 3 dimensional universe.
He believes there are 11 dimensions: 10 spatial and one temporal. Some of those dimensions are extremely small and curved. Time starts at a Big Bang and ends in a Black Hole. If we want to grasp everything he said, we should either read articles about it in science magazines or read his book.
Anyway, it's not everyday we can take part to such an event. It was totally free and depended only on how early we arrived to have a seat.
