"Why would a robot want to become a human?"
I haven't seen the movie, so I can't speak to the motivation of the characters, however a frequent convention in Science Fiction is that robots will by designed be motivated to imitate humans as much as possible, so as to be able to interact with people as smoothly as possible. If imitation of humans has been wired in as a high priority for a robot then desiring to perfect that imitation, i.e. become human, would be a logic result.
