Space/Science » in reply to New Research from CU Reveals Mars' Lumpy Magnetic Field

Not strong enough

If Mars remnant magnetic field were strong enough to shield the surface of the planet from radiation from our Sun, earlier life forms would have evolved to fill the resulting surface niches. Once again, no long chain compounds survive Mars surface radiation environment.

If my memory is not playing tricks on me, the recent re-surfacing of Venus indicates a molten core - somewhat different than the press release's "facts". But then what is the magnetic field of Venus? Does a motlen core from the Sun's gravity allow Venus to hold its atmosphere?

The wording of the press release is the usual slant required to obtain funding -
It's watery Mars redux - The radiation numbers and calcs can't be that hard, and where are they?
