Accelerating expansion?
There is an article in Astronomy magazine Nov 2001 "Celebrating the galactic Millennium". It touches upon the notion that the galactic expansion is accelerating. The engine behind this acceleration is said to be fueled by a "mysterious ...dark energy".
Couldn't the acceleration be due to the diminishing effects of gravity as the distance between matter increases? Sort of like what would happen if, in a tug-of-war, one team were to let go of the rope.
