I read this question & answer website about the big bang theory of cosmology and found myself disagreeing with it....
Big Bang FAQ
These are the problems I have:
- If space itself is expanding then why would it be hotter at the beginning of the universe if everything inside the volume of space used to be smaller?
- If space itself is expanding this would give it the inherent existence as an "ether". Einstein did not believe in the existence of an ether, but that space was just defined as "emptiness". Given this then the observed expansion must be a result of a change of state of the photons that we use to measure - light itself. There is evidence that neutrinos change state en-route, why not photons?
- Doppler shift is just an overall shift of the observed spectrum of elements over cosmological distances and this is where the big bang theory came from. To describe a photon's energy, E = f * w, a decrease in frequency would demand an increase in wavelength. This could signal an unknown parameter in quantum theory of light. After all, light is supposed to have the properties of both waves AND particles. Like neutrinos, photons may change state en-route too.
- Photons don't travel alone, we have to detect countless numbers of them to resolve an image or take measurements.... what if the shift in average frequency was simply a transfer of energy to a smaller number of photons, similar to a velocity distribution of rocket exhaust - some are faster, some are slower. For photons of light this would result in a redshift of spectra, while transferring energy to a small number of blue-shifted quanta. Is it possible that the blue-shifted particles did not survive the trek, were absorbed, or decayed into particle-antiparticle pairs. Or perhaps we are not really looking for them?
- Couldn't the hydrogen & helium, and the cosmic background radiation have originated from stars and supernovae?
- If the cosmological expansion is just an illusion, and the Big Bang is merely a false leap of logic, then what other things would come into question? Opinions?
