Re: New Technology on the Horizon

- NMR based liquid quantum computers
I'll believe it when I see it.

- optical computers
It will be first applied to switching of optical networks.

- fuel cell batteries for cars that eliminate alternators
They are certainly possible, somewhat likely if other technologies do not supervene.

- photocatalysts for making eco-friendly hydrogen fuel
The article ignores the vast light collector needed to house the catalyst.

- alternative fuel aircraft
If it will flow and burn, turbojets can use it.

- electronic paper
It is already here in small quantities.

- mini-magnetospheric propulsion for deep space probes
Weird!

- Extreme sport spacediving with cheap personal rockets
This is very good news for the funeral industry.

- long baseline optical interferometer space telescopes
It is indeed possible, yes; practical, no opinion yet.

- biomimetic ornithopter for martian aerial RPV missions
Weird!

- Martian Greenhouse
This is a VERY BIG project.

- Commercial Fusion Power
This has all been said before; it will all be said again; but nothing will ever happen. In the 1960s, fusion power was only 1 decade away.
In the 1970s, after much progress, fusion power was only 2 decades away.
In the 1980s, after more progress, fusion power was only 3 decades away.
In the 1990s, after still more progress, fusion power was only 4 decades away.
Today, fusion power is only 5 decades away, and still receding into the indefinite future.

Here is one that is not on your list: Cheap electric power, fresh water and seafood production from simple technology: http://www.seasolarpower.com

Here is another one that is not on your list: A new kind of computer disk drive that is 10,000 times as fast as conventional drives, permitting throughput rates of 1,000 GIGABYTES PER SECOND. Perfect for the big data warehouse and the large timesharing system. I have already applied for the patent on this device. Who knows, it just might work.
