M87 the monster...

Hello,
M87 is an elliptical galxy located in the Virgo Cluster and ha several really astonishing caracteristics.

It is at a 48 million lightyears distance (latest figures, Ciel & Espace) or 60 million LY..depending.

It's 120,000 lightyears wide.

It has a mass of roughly one trillion Suns..

It's central object has a mass of 2 to 3 billion Suns. It must be a blackhole with speeds at 2 million km/h in the gazeous disk in the center.
It is a Radio Galaxy with a huge Jet (it was thought it's speed was faster than light's).

It has the largest number of globular clusters known in a galaxy: from 1,500 to 2,000.

And it could very well be what we call a Quasar! Another elliptic galaxy, Centaurus A or NGC 5128 could also be a huge monster and a Quasar.
We don't think them as Quasars because their jets are not aimed towards us. But...what if they were, and from so close...

Clearly, M87 completely dwarfs our Milky way ! I wonder if civilisations have thrived there...
