Gravastars...

Hi Guys

I read the preprint behind this article a while ago, but here's the popular version just released now that the preprint is soon to be print...

...the idea is that gravitational collapse doesn't end in a singularity wrapped in an event horzon - i.e. a black hole. Instead space undergoes a "phase transition" and forms a thin shell out of the collapsing matter - imagine a cosmic string wrapped on itself into a sphere. A cosmic twine ball maybe? As result no event horizon forms, but an impenetrable wall DOES form which annihilates any infalling matter.

Hmmm... if we could make a smallish one we could use it for a photon rocket.
