Mark,
I'm awake, just barely. [gulps coffee] It's first thing in the morning here on the west coast.
The BBS software has zero inclination to post multiple messages. What's wrong is the "crosswalk-button phenomenon", which is a bug in the human component in the system. People waiting for a pedestrian traffic signal to change, and people waiting on computers, impulsively push the button multiple times, thinking that the system will interpret this as impatience and work faster. Doesn't work that way. The traffic signal will ignore you, and BBS software will faithfully submit your message as many times as you click the Post button.
I'm sure you know this on a conscious level, but the phenomenon seems to arise from a more visceral level. Nothing I can do from an engineering standpoint; I can only note that you'll know if the software fails, either through an error message from the server, or a timeout message displayed by your browser if the connection isn't working. Poking blindly won't help.
Humans have a remarkable ability to break even the most reliable system. Who'd have thought that somebody would forget to convert English units to metric on the MCO mission?
