Something tells me that our Milky Way would look pretty similar to this giant neighbor (I know I'm not the first to say that):

Andromeda (M31)

Whenever the exoplanet folks report about a new planetary system discovered in our galaxy, seemingly devoid of any terrestrial Earth-sized, etc., planets, I think of/turn to Andromeda.
