Re: Yes, but, but, but, but... Now you sound like a motorboat . . .

<* Many Australians are obsessed about their lifestyle being "destroyed" by "waves of illegal immigrants".

Preferred to an impactor tsunami taking out coastal villages and cities.

It’s also nice to have a planet where immigrants are able to exist, legal or otherwise. With barely a few days notice, an inbound heavy impactor can easily change this.

* Others are concerned that in global trade terms we are caught between a rock and a hard place - The USA plays unfair in trade and uses its muscle to squash small countries, while China plays a different unfair game and floods everywhere with cheap exports. between these two forces, Australian manufacturing industry is being eliminated.

Such is life -- while it lasts. Not everyone can be lead singer in the band, but we can all be in the band -- again, while it lasts.

* A small sector of society worries that education is being neglected by short-sighted government policy, and that without smart people we will return to the minerals, meat, and wool primary economy we were 150 years ago.

Excellent!

Improved education might raise eyes from the natural hominid view of the horizon to that of a threat that could potentially leave no future for anyone anywhere.

* Some people worry that WITHOUT immigration we cannot balance the age structure of the population and keep the country going in the growth mode it has been in since it was founded.

So nice to be on a planet with such numerous and varied troubles.

Be a real pity to blow it all...

- In short, we haven't got time to look up at the heavens and wonder what is looking down at us.

Wondering or not, looking up or not, the impactor is inbound, and it cares not at all for what lies in its path. It will happen, and when it is all said and done, there won’t be anyone around to say, “I told you so.”

Small blessing.

Just some noise from my end, Nick. Nothing personal.

Cheers,
Dan
