...story from AP:
PHILADELPHIA -- A veteran National Archives employee was charged with theft Monday for allegedly stealing dozens of historical documents - including presidential pardons and slave trade materials - and selling them on eBay.
At least 100 documents worth at least $100,000 were stolen and many have not been recovered, authorities said. . . .
But I'm posting it here because everyone who visits Current Events visits here, but not vice versa, and also because this bit puts it squarely on-topic:
The stolen items included . . . hundreds of autographed photographs of astronauts taken during Apollo and space shuttle missions.
If anyone who posts or lurks here happened to buy a photograph like this on Ebay, please contact the National Archives Mid-Atlantic branch in Philadelphia. The thief doesn't remember how many items he stole or sold, so recovery will have to depend on the buyers' ethics.
These are irreplaceable parts of the national memory and the record of human space exploration. Though I'm sure the buyers bought them in good faith, the items were stolen from the nation.
Thanks--
Mary Anne
At first, Current Events looked like the place for this...
