Space/Science » in reply to Dobbs invites O'Keefe tonight

Saw it. (ahem, twice...)

A few apples short of a barrel?

He displayed about as much knowledge as I could by reading the headlines of science.nasa.gov for the past week. Ok, it's not his job to be a space science specialist, fine.

When asked about manned Mars missons, he stammered something about MARIE readings on the way to Mars, how it's two times the dose of what ISS astronauts recieve.

When asked about manned Moon missions, he mentioned something like "well, if there's a reason to go then we could look in to it", AND about the deleterious effects of microG on Humans. Now, correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the moon had an acceleration due to mass. Obviously, this was a clumsy segway to directing the discussion in his favor by talking about ISS.

They covered the ongoing Hubble repair mission a couple of times, with O'keefe ladeling praise on everyone involved and repeating the now tired maxim about Hubble rewriting astronomy books.

Despite some direct questions about human space flight which the good administrator wanted nothing to do with, Dobbs had an extra special twinkle in his eye. Were they in the same studio, I wouldn't have been suprised if he'd crawled into O'Keefe's lap with the intent to cuddle.

He's not a psycho-eyed Goldin, he carries himself with a nice calm demeanor (which with the mustache reminds me of Sam Elliot's character in Tombstone, or most other movies he's in....) but I hope he keeps his eyes on the (accounting)books, fights hard for dough, and administrates the Sci-Tech by hiring capable people and benign neglect.

Well, thats it for me. I critisized NASA. No trips to ISS....

I guess I could just rub Spires out, he's the only one with my e-mail address.....
