400,000 RPM?
<< The compressor has a small turbine that spins at 400,000 revolutions per minute, about 100 times the operating speed of a typical car engine. Despite that dizzying speed, the cryogenic cooler is virtually vibration-free — crucial for Hubble’s precise picture-taking.
“It’s very much pioneering-type technology,” said Hubble program manager Preston Burch.>
Even in a vacuum, how would you get 400,000 rpm? And this seems to not be in a vacuum, if it's moving material. And how do they keep from heating up the material it's moving?
I'm not saying it doesn't do it, I'm wondering how.
