You know, I have to wonder: do a whole new batch of loonies latch onto each successive prophesy, or is it always the same old group, hoping upon hope that this one will finally destroy the world. I wonder if any of them keep a journal -- boy, that would be a sorry site:
• May, 1997 -- Aliens fail to immanentize the eshcaton upon their arrival on "Hale-Mary"
• August, 1999 -- America not destroyed by Nostradamus' "king of terror" comet.
• May, 2000 -- Poles fail to flip when planetary alignment passes unnoticed.
• September, 2001 -- Shoot, guess we forgot about this one...
• April, 2003 -- Niribu seems to develop stage fright.
• December, 2012 -- Reality fails to end with the Mayan calendar.
...and so forth. As Einstein once (probably never) said: "there are only two things that are infinite..." :-)
On the bright side, I guess that as long as these guys are around, I'll never lack for amusement.
Cheers,
Nathan.
