Re: 10,000 AU in 7.5 years!?!

Let's see, 1 AU is 149,597,870.691 kilometers, so 10,000 AU is 1,495,978,706,910 kilometers in 7.5 years.

If the vehicle was travelling at a constant velocity (a false assumption but humor me), that works out to 199,463,827,588 kilometers per year. Divide that by 365.25 days in a year (close enough), and you get 54,6102,197.37 kilometers per day (not too shabby!).

Divide that by 24 hours in a day and by 3600 seconds in an hour and you get 6320.63 kilometers per second.

The speed of light is 299,792,458 m/s, or 299,792.5 KM/sec, so 6320.63 KM/sec is about 0.021 c. That may not sound very fast compared to Star Trek but is damned fast compared to any other space system we've ever developed.
