Voting is now underway by the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) for representatives to this United Nations sponsored organization (see more at http://www.unsgac.org/index.php).
The Space Generation Advisory Council was formed as a result of youth activities at the Space Generation Forum at the UNISPACE III conference in Vienna in July, 1999. It exists to spread awareness of the value of space activities to all the youth of the world.
Through corollary activities like Yuri's Night, the global space party (http://www.yurisnight.net), funds are raised for educational activities such as bringing educational materials to schools in Africa, and buying telescopes for inner city school children in Los Angeles.
Other outgrowths of the Space Generation Forum were the Charter on Disaster Relief, whereby CSA, CNES and ESA have pledged to provide remote sensing data to regions undergoing environmental disasters, and a greater awareness in the space community for the need to involve youth in the discussion (such as the SGAC, which is associated with the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs (OOSA) http://www.oosa.unvienna.org).
