The rabbi I studied with is, like me, a serious science fiction fan. We talked more than once about the practice of Judaism by colonists on other planets: different lengths of year, more than one moon, etc; and on shipboard in transit where there's no sundown, etc...

According to 'Reb Eric', what it comes down to is: whatever the minyan decides, as long as there's a logical train back to established tradition.
