Putting aside the hysteria some astrophobes are suffering as a result of the news of the possibility that that asteroid will smack the Earth on March 16, 2880, creating a crater 10 miles in diameter...[Poor Johnny. He must be running for the hills in terror by now. I miss that guy]...let's look at the more realistic possibility: That that asteroid will most likely pass by Earth a scant few thousand or few hundred miles above us in that future year.
What should future generations do to such an asteroid, should it be known for certain that it will miss the Earth by
a whisker on that date?
I say they should do nothing but enjoy the view. At a few hundred miles from Earth in 2880, Asteroid 1950 DA will be as bright as the crescent moon.
cheers.
