The more condescension you heap upon...
...people like this, the more likely they are to organize an irritating movement of some sort. Wouldn't it be better to win them over than to make them an enemy?
Assuming we find lots of life (modest assumption!), we do have the ability to become like a cancer to that life. It's not a trivial question to be dismissed out of hand.
