Bowser and "world's strongest economy"

Several weeks ago Bowser made a post claiming "Bush inherited the world's strongest economy, and drove it into a recession." Many posters brought up statistics which demonstrate that it is nonsense, but Bowser obstinantly ignored every argument, and kept repeating: "US had the world's strongest economy" (and presumably now does not, although I don't recall Bowser explicitely saying so). Every sentence in Bowser's original post after that first one got shredded, but he clung to the first one (as in: "Do you deny that US had the world's strongest economy?"), and no one could deny it.

I read all the replies and counter-replies, and something did not seem right, but I could not quite put my finger on it. Finally I got it:

The sentence "US had the world's strongest economy" is meaningless! Ask any economist, he will tell you that "strength of the economy" is not a measurable quantity and in fact is not a term economists ever use. It is a journalist's term, and insofar as it has a consistent meaning, "strong economy" usually means "low unemployment". And US never had the world's lowest unemployment.

There you have it. Bowser's claim is either false (in journalist-speak) or without meaning (in economist-speak).
