Goldin imagined a Faster, Better and Cheaper program for unmanned satellites and probes.
Understandably, it was possible (after some trial and error) but only for an unmanned program.
Will there be somebody who imagines such a philosophy for manned spacecrafts, making rapid changes possible?
Two of the Shuttle's problems are its huge size and its reusability (thus avoiding its replacement).
If we considered a manned spacecraft as a payload, like a traditional satellite only a little special, it might help implementing newer software or newer technology, faster.
The Russians have very slowly made improvements on their Soyuz; slowly because of lack of money and also because they don't link their manned space program to technological development as closely as the US does. Perhaps, a new kind of capsule could help with the solution.
