I'm actually trying to get ahead of the curve on "Cosmic Log" and saving this item for a couple of hours ... but here's what it appears to come down to:
This is an auction for Space Adventures' orbital prequalifications package, the 14-day trip that involves medical exams, centrifuge, vomit comet, etc. The asking price for that is usually $200,000. But when the auction was first posted, the reserve price was set way too high ... up to the $20 million for an actual space flight. The posting was also worded in a way that Space Adventures would have preferred it wasn't. So throughout the day, Space Adventures and the other folks have been working to refine the wording and make sure the bidders knew what they were bidding on. Of course you have the usual complement of high-school kids making bogus bids ... and it looks as if the auction posting still hasn't been fully fixed.
In about three hours I'll have the Cosmic Log update posted, but that's the gist.
Best... Alan
P.S. I'm heading to Belgium next week ... maybe I'll be in Raoul's neck of the woods?
