I stand by my comments in the post below, but it appears CNN may have been sloppy again.

In the lower right is a series of very similar articles related to the chimp research which seems to say that the chimp tools are only "at least" 100 years old and are being compared to similar objects of possible pre-human ancestors 5 million years old. This may be recent chimp behavior as other groups of chimps do not use these tools or the rest could have forgotton.
