Defending your assets on the moon

From a thread below about Legal implications of space resources and settlements.

China, or any other nation, could possibly defend the entire Moon against all comers, given a sufficient supply of guided missiles or some other kinetic weapon. Anything traveling from the Earth to the Moon is a big, fat, sitting duck on a fixed trajectory for a couple of days while in transit.

An interesting problem. How easy or difficult would it be to shoot down a ship on it’s way from the earth to the moon? The orbital mechanics is not that simple. Seems like if your people were looking out for you they could steer you away from the attack. However high a energy beam or laser weapon is another thing. Depends on where it is and how far it has to shoot, and how much energy it can put on your spacecraft. Remember none of this scenario is likely for at least 20 years, so who knows how advanced energy weapons will be by then. I have a feeling we will all be surprised at what is developed.
