Another method that works to kill this illusion is to hold a dime at arms length towards the Moon. Do it when the moon is at the horizon and when it is overhead. You’ll be amazed at how small he Moon really is in our skies.
Still, it’s pretty cool having a moon that we can see some surface detail with our unaided eyes. We all seem to take that for granted.
