A correction.

First: In 1960, from an altitude
of 102,000 feet [nearly 32km up],
a USAF test subject, named Joseph Kittinger jumped out of a balloon gondola and plunged to Earth, with more than 99 percent of the Earth's atmosphere below him.
He lived to tell the tale and is assumed to have passed MACH-1 in freefall [though not officially recognized].

Second; Starting from the 1950's,
many pilots have ejected from their supersonic jets at speeds greater than MACH-1 and lived.
