Re: any good space sim colonisation games?

There are a couple, though none that I know of that cover all of the things that you're looking for.

Moon Tycoon
A pretty fun game. You start out with a bare patch of regolith and have to build an entire Moonbase from scratch, covering mining, atmosphere and water production, research, electronics and medical goods manufacturing, tourism, etc. The model is pretty straight-forward, and the program takes up something like 800 megs, but it's good for some interesting thought-experiments.

Outpost
My personal favourite, as it's the only one I haven't been able to entirely master. Out-of-print, from Sierra, it's definitely worth looking for. If you have a Half-Price Books nearby you might want to check there.

The model is that Earth is destroying itself ecologically (or maybe an asteroid, I can't rightly remember). You have to stock the first interstellar ship, launch probes to scout nearby star systems, and then take your chances. Typically you end up with a Mars-like planet, but there are others. The model was designed by NASA folks, so it's very involved and challenging.

There's also an older program called Lunar Command that is very difficult to find, and the interface is very clunky. Only recommended for true afficionados (or Moon freaks such as myself).

Happy Hunting,
Kadet Ken
