A suitably timed crater of equal size in the Pacific would finish the fire season down there on the east coast abruptly. Hmmm, stem the flow of export grade Fosters and cheesy commercials? Not to mention immerse most civilized areas along the Pacific rim.......

I must add here that according to Lewis' book "Rain of Iron and Ice" it passed directly over Salt Lake City, Utah (draw your own conclusions) and made it's perigee over southern Montana and began to gain altitude again over Canada, efficently repelled by the UCMP patiently explaining that the Federal and Provincial laws of Canada and Alberta take precidence over the laws of physics.
