When I get a chance, I'll try to relate this cracked terrain to some of the crater interiors in Acidalia -- where it appears there could be outgassing going on right now.

Also, I'm sure you've explored around Elysium and Utopia. Many examples of the phenomenon there as well.

My suspicion is it's a dessicated icy flow.
