Questions for Alex Blackwell

Hiya Alex,

I was just wondering a few things about the top of the volcanoe.

1) How big a problem are headlights from visitors at night? I wanted to go back up that night and watch the Perseids, but read that astronomers are aggravated at night time visitors because of the headlights, so I refrained. (I was also a little hesitant to drive Saddle Road at night too...!)

2) Where is the actual "top" of the volcanoe? When I was at your 2.2 meter, I saw a small thingy atop another mound nearly straight out from the front door from the 2.2 and was wondering if that was the USGS marker.

3) Which other telescopes welcome visitors? I only noticed visitor's centers at the Kecks and your 2.2 meter. There was some guy walking into the IRTF with a bag lunch while I was video taping that, and he kinda just looked at me wierd, so I left.

You guys that work up there are pretty lucky. What a view of the world below (and the heavens above). Just like flying in an airplane and looking down, but standing still!
