Does anybody find that the image of Von Braun, who is almost unrecognizable at that size is 1/5 the scale of the ad next to him? What is with space.com lately?
It's good you recorded them - I don't expect them to be put on DVD or anything else real soon.
The old Disney - is NOT the new Disney. Only the Disney archivist, David Smith is the last lingering bit of class Disney retains on its payroll. He is a first class act - a throwback to the old Disney.
Walt had the vision thing while his brother Roy made the bucks fall from the heavens. Now they have a bunch of buck guys - but no vision guys.
Walt got excited about space - not the money. The man in space series had nothing to do with money - and everything to do with adventure, forward looking american ingenuity and yes, patriotism.
Disney worked for the government as a special agent to help flush out some of the subversives in the entertainment industry. (which was in the 30s and 40s a commie-haven)
If you were to ask folks in Whollyweird today who are the most hated industry megaliths of their time - Disney's name would appear just behind Bob Hope's name in the #1 and #2 slots. Now the, reformed screenwriter of Basic Instinct would probably come in #3.
The Disney company probably hates all the old Mickey Mouse Club and early Disney special stuff - and asides from appealing to aging baby boomers they likely consider it utterly unmarketable.
My advice, make some copies of the tapes and save them for your kids. They will be valuable historic documents someday in the distant future. No one will want to watch them, as it would be like wanting to watch Charlie Chaplin movies today, but they will be valuable.
I love those flicks. Darn well made - as were almost all of the Disney specials under Ward Kimball.
Just some rambling observations,
