Hmm, I believe there is still romance in looking at the stars.
It's just that we have more opportunities!
We can look at the internet, our own laptop outside (webcam or CCD); we can visit observatories, we can still look through binoculars or through our own telescope (with or without inverted images).
Large professional telescopes gather much more light, are sometimes in space (maybe one day on the Moon).
And we make lots of amateur astronomer friends who challenge us with their abilities to picture satellites with their details or planets with their structures.

Romance is not gone (besides, we don't have a profit to make from this, just a little personal satisfaction).
