The biomass will be purchased by bioethanol refineries for no more than $35 per tonne. If yields are 10 tonnes per acre then sales revenues for the floating farm will be about $350 per acre annually.
If the floating raft has a service life of 30 years before replacement (using solar powered cathodic protection), that means it will earn a total of $10,500 revenue per acre by the end of its service life. The steel structure will cost $500 per tonne, so the raft must be constructed to be structurally sound using no more than 21 tonnes of steel rod per acre. Actually it will have to be much less because there will be labor costs, canvas material and floatation systems to incorporate as well.
Personally I think it may be feasible! :-)
On a side note the 150,000-acre floating farm will earn $1.575 billion revenue over 30 years!!!
