ISS started out as a Reagan political toy. Never did seem to have a "mission" past that, most science having been done on Mir.
I'd hate to see it go, and don't know what it's doing that couldn't be done cheaper by other means. And haven't read anything significant projected for it, as the article says.
I dunno. Maybe someone does, but they ain't saying.
