The hope is coming up with technology and a strategy to scan the entire celestial sky on a regular basis, to create a continuous warning system that can be implemented within 20 to 40 years.

Then there are the nastier long period comets. They do not regularly saunter their way into near-Earth space, having orbital periods that can measure many millions of years before announcing themselves. They too are a possible threat and can offer little or no warning time using conventional ground-based telescopes, Mazanek noted.

Well, in 20-40 years, I think ground-based systems would be able to find Nibiru at its aphelion -- let alone tanks in the desert.

And nowhere did I come across anything stating that funding for a lunar project of this magnitude was even being considered, let alone accepted.

For the time being, I’d say Larry’s right on the economics side of the house. Naturally, working from space would be hundreds of times better, as far as accuracy goes, but without dollar-1, the project becomes still-born.

I still say this planet could do with an atmosphere-grazing, 2 kilometer visitor -- about lunch time, right over D.C.,
