A notable week for space anniversaries
[and I'm surprised Raoul didin't beat me to this...]
3 October: 40th anniversary of Mercury 8; Walter Schirra's first flight.
4 October: 45th anniversary of the launch of Sputnik I.
5 October: 120th anniversary of the birth of Robert Goddard.
Just among us, I count Sputnik as Day One for the Space Era... and yes, I remember it. I was in first grade, and about to turn 6 years old.
