Space/Science » in reply to Hey, let's drop Quaoar on Mars!

I swear to Allah, if you bring that thing close to my beautiful planet...

I'm guessing that this would be the biggest comet the inner solar system has seen in a long while. All that clean fresh ice (...mabye not).

As far out as it is, it's going to have a LOT of potential energy which equates to if someone did something completely foolish like killed it's orbital velocity which is not relatively much and did some aiming (i dunno, use your imagination) it would show up at Mars with enough energy to nearly blow the planet apart.

So before we go for the record and try to beat Hellas' record for crater diameter, let's maybe think about a powered descent, OK?!?!

Infact, let's just leave it be. Declare it a Solar System natural reserve. I'll be the park ranger.

This means you SM, a 1000 year moritorium on any funky tether stuff.

SDAI, no riding aether vorticies out there like some kind of terrible djinn.

Dan, No digesting it with your assemblers to feed your clone army to take over the galaxy. (don't EVEN try to deny it)

And I'm sorry Tom, but no coring it out for your personal liberatarian cabin in the woods.

On second thought, let's forget the whole thing. Last one to Quaoar is a rotten egg!

gleefully yours,

et
