Mars Express parachute
In the Oct. 28 "Aviation Week," they note that the parachute for Mars Express has been redesigned to reduce landing velocity.
The new chute has a canopy area 56 percent larger than the old one, yet has an identical mass, and occupies the same stored volume as the old one.
Now THAT'S engineering! Way to go, guys.
