Of the linked articles, I found this one to be the most interesting. It's the one about Nazis on speed.
Years ago, I read a book written by a young paratrooper from the 101st Airborne. It was perhaps the first book written about D-Day from an enlisted man's perspective. It was first published under the title "Currahee" and later republished under the title "As Eagles Screamed" as part of the Bantam War Series. "As Eagles Screamed" is listed on Amazon, as is "Currahee". I read "Currahee" back in high school (1974-75 timeframe) and saw "As Eagles Screamed" on the bookshelves in the 1980s.
In the book, the author describes being given some pills shortly before taking off from England. After taking the pills, he said that no one in his unit slept for days. Perhaps he was describing something similar to the Nazi speed described in the article.
