Attack of the nanomonsters
Here's a review of Chrichton's new book "Prey" which novelizes Bill Joy's "Oh my God, nanotech and AI is gonna doom us all" ephipany. I agree that Chrichton's stuff (I read it all) is at it's heart very anti-technological and always has evil capatilist villians, which Hollywood absolutely requires for an acceptable screenplay (see the predictable Hollywood bowlderizing of Clancy's "Sum of All Fears" substituting evil Germans for Arab villians with nukes).
On a positive note, I loved his novel "Timeline" and would like to see it become a movie.
