MY REPLY: I am not surprised that water ice is present at the southern pole. Nor am I surprised there is sub-surface ice in the northern latitudes. Should I be?
As for the dark streaks, I am not impressed with the speculation that some of these may be caused by briny liquid water percolating to the surface. There are too many other plausible explanations.
