You're right Steve, I have the january issue of Astronomy and read the artist was Lynette Cook, so I googled on her name and found the site.
I can't find the same paintings as in the issue.
Now, if you take the one representing Orion's Trapezium (page 38), I have real doubts someone on that imaginary planet could see the 4 stars AND those glowing greenish sheets of light (shockwaves).
Those four stars shine much too strongly for our eyes to see much fainter objects.
