This site brings back strong memories. I was a young Security troop assigned to the 87th FIS F-106's deployed April 78 to Keflavik to support the 57th during it's transition to the F-4E. At the same time the Russians were increasing their runs of Bear-Ds thru the Gap down to Cuba. I was there for my 20th birthday (wouldn't have know it, but a 57th admin guy reminded me when he went thru my TDY papers). It was different, specially when I jacked up a 57th pilot and a Icelandic reporter and his kid at one of our 106's cause they were gonna take picture I felt unapproperate. Some stink about that. The was some rivallery between the 87th and the 57th, but in good humor. I was humping the Alert billets when the F-4E landed in the pic. Days gonr by.
