Mark Gray, who made all those wondeful DVD's of the Apollo program possible, quotes Von Braun:
"No Man can say with assurance what benefits will
accrue from our discoveries. With Explorer, we made a
modest beginning. We have stepped into a new, high
road from which there can be no turning back. As we
probe farther into the area beyond our sensible
atmosphere, man will learn more about his environment;
he will understand better the order and beauty of
creation. He may then come to realise that war, as we
know it, will avail him nothing but catastrophe. He
may grasp the truth that there is something bigger
than his one little world."
And another one:
When asked if America needed a crash program to
catch up with the Russians in the early days of
spaceflight. He said, We need less crash and more
program.
