The media is trying to kill manned space exploration

<Drooling with joy over the possible killing of manned space flight

Naturally, this is not ALL media. Our very own Alan Boyle proves that this is not the case universally, yet I am surprised at how many stories are trying to say, in a nutshell, space isn't worth it.

Is Star Wars, Star Trek and video games all these "grown up" spoiled kids want from space?

Some articles are even portraying NASA as a favorite pet project of the military community and fighter jocks.

Is this the private view of NASA from inside the newsrooms of America and the world?

The military generally dislikes NASA - has little use for it and relegates it to the bottom tier of all agencies. The mismanagement has at its roots this fear that spending too much or being too much in the public eye will quickly get your funding pulled and projects cancelled. The only historical comparison we have is Apollo, when drugged out hippies felt the money should be spent upon feeding the starving masses. Technology was the enemy. Space was being militarized, etc.

Now members of this same fickle public are ready, eager almost, to pull the plug on the shuttle and manned space exploration all together.

It is the rhetoric of cowards.

THe same folks who can't fathom volunteering to serve their country can't imagine that folks want to become astronauts and travel farther and farther away from the safety of their homes, and the chairs in front of their computers.

Who wants to live life when we can simulate it? Who needs real exploration when we can sit and watch images on a monitor, relayed from a machine?

For that matter who needs planes anyway. Want to go on vacation - just watch pictures on your computer! Want to visit with friends - send the video!

It's no wonder obesity is on the rise - the world is becoming a large, gaseous couch potato.

One english article says the shuttle blowing up damages America's pride and self-esteem! How is that? We are the only nation on earth with a shuttle fleet!

What weird twilight zone do these journalists live in? Why exactly are so many they so eager to kill space exploration?

Does the thought of real people actually living a life on the edge make them uncomfortable - or perhaps even remind them of their timidity and shallowness?

Mankind has lost much momentum. The placebos to real exploration have been put on 17" phosphorus coated screens as well as sitting in America's family and bed rooms for fifty years.

That's not my idea of progress. That sounds like a formula for creating the matrix. - where fake living is preferable to real living for some.
