X-33 Reentry Question

Does anybody know what method of protection was designed for the X-33 from the over 2000 degree temperature encountered upon reentry to the atmosphere. Or did they not get that far in the design?

I know X-33 has been canceled or at least on hold, but was wondering what the options were.
